  1. I got this game for Christmas (14 years old here), thinking about the once loved game I had played, the original Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the Gamecube. This is NOTHING like the Gamecube version. Combat is horrible, I would rate a 1/5, music is a 2/5, and overall gameplay just a 2/5. There is no magic, hardly bearable multiplayer, and the combat system is clicking on a target and throwing it at someone/something. The graphics are choppy (although expected on the Wii), but seriously? At least include some of the elements from the original wonderful game, this is not an RPG at all, so I say if you are looking for a Final Fantasy game to play on your wii? GO AND BUY THE ORIGINAL FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES FOR GAMECUBE!!! The graphics are BETTER, the gameplay is BETTER, and the music is BETTER. (: Trust me, you’ll be glad you didn’t buy this and super glad you bought the original.

Overall, this game is NOT for someone who’s looking for a fun rpg, an adventurous game, an action game, a magic/combat game, a multiplayer game, or a typically well-rounded game.

  2. One would wonder why Square Enix would release this game the day after Christmas. After spending several hours playing this game I understood why: Square Enix knew this is a terrible game and didn’t want children to receive this lump of coal as their Christmas present.

First of all, the story, voice acting, and dialogs are absolutely terrible. One of the protagonist is a very annoying and unlikable hypocrite who just keeps on lying, cheating, stealing, conning, and scheming the main character that you control. Worse is that you’re forced to keep saving that horrible character throughout, and the thanks you get from her is being called a sick pervert and got physically slapped several times, and then continued to be conned, lied, and schemed by her. Even her voice is dreadful to listen to. Ofcourse your main character just willingly let her abuse him over and over again. This is not entertaining to watch nor does it serve the plot. All it does is to really annoy you and make you feel like a hopeless idiot for continually taking this abuse. The overall plot is no better.

The game consist mainly of picking up and throwing stuff at enemies. This gets repetitive fast and barely have any physics effects visually. Everything looks and reacts in a static manner. Even first gen titles like elebits have dynamic physics in play when things are thrown, so it’s baffling why this game does not. Gameplay revolving around this mechanics gets really messy fast since many sections, especially boss fights, requires you to target things that are generally off-camera in split second. That means you have to manually adjust the camera using the d-pad (no automated camera whatsoever) and move your wii remote pointer at the same time with your index finger on the tigger button (yes this is a pain), all the while moving your character with the analog stick to dodge attacks. Most of the time you can’t even see if you targeted correctly or not and have to rely on blind luck.

The overall game environment layout is generally linear, but you will get lost a lot early on because the game provides no map whatsoever (except the really vague mission map). You cannnot talk to any townsfolks except the very rare selective ones, and nearly all acts idiotically as if the developers didn’t even implement a basic a.i. In the first 10 minutes of the game upon entering the first indoor town, there were several rolling boulders that appeared out of no where and all the people it hit reacted strangely. Scenes like this makes no sense and occurs throughout the game, which is further evident that this game is still in the beta phase.

Visually it looks like a ps2 game, FF12 in particular at best. Some of the outside scenery look nice like that of Monster Hunter Tri game, but the rest of the game looks bland, blurry, and really outdated. All the animations are stiff.

With the terrible characters, story, gameplay, and controls, this is a terrible game hands down. Avoid it at all cost. It doesn’t even come close to match the quality of the gamecube original.

  3. I tried to like this game, even though it wasn’t what I expected for Final Fantasy.

    Pros

    The video scenes were good

    Story line is decent

    Music is ok

    Cons

All you do is point the wii remote at the screen and flick it it a direction

    Very restrictive story line

    Redundant

Combat consists of pointing the wiimote at the screen and hold the b button and flicking the wiimote

    Minigames seem pointless

The game play drags you through the story instead of leads you, it’s very restrictive with no real freedom to change the direction of the game. I feel like I’m playing a unending game of duck hunt pointing the wiimote at the screen for everything. The wiimote is not known for good screen tracking to begin with and trying to keep it trained on little moving objects long enough to pickup or toss them gets very old very fast. This is actually the only game I’ve ever ordered that is being returned because I just never see the desire to play it.

    UPDATE:

Make sure you read Amazons return policy, while it reads you can’t return open video games, if you do you get back only 50% of the sale price. So out $20 on a game not worth $15

  4. I was really looking forward to playing this game. I haven’t looked at any of the reviews because I like to come to my own conclusions independently and without any bias from other people. Now that I have played the game, I can say that it is horrible. Typical of the large majority of wii games, I felt this was meant for small children. The plot is one from a little kids saturday morning cartoon and the game complexity is on par for a little kid. The story is lack luster, controls awkward and finicky, and for the love of god why isn’t there a map in this game. I have spent hours running around the game trying to find areas for the next place to advance the story. I finally got so fed up that I have started creating a map myself. When I finally finish the game I will post the map on gamefaqs for those people who actually want to play the game.

I was the most disapointed with the fact that the only means of attack the main character has is his telepathy power to pick things up and throw them. This gets really boring really fast. There is virtually no character custimization or equipment development.

The price is another problem. For [...] bucks I would expect a good game. This game should not sell for a penny over 25-30 dollars. Yet another in a long line of bad wii games. The wii system is not for real gamers and this is another game that proves it. The wii has been the greatest disapointment purchase I have ever made. I can count the good games they have on my hands, maybe even one hand.

  5. This is as bad as Final Fantasy has ever been. Filled with uninspiring stereotypes, rancid gameplay, and THE worst map I have ever encountered in a game, Crystal Bearers just plain out sucks. I knew going into the purchase not to expect the average FF works, but I certainly wasn’t expecting something this… lackluster.

First off, the main action waggle is just ridiculous. You highlight characters or objects to pick them up telepathically but why you preform the desired movement (swinging the remote upward), it instead knocks the being/item to the ground. If you were trying to pick up a citizen, for instance, you’ll be more likely to tick them off, essentially bringing the idiotic security guards down upon you. You have to preform the movement twice in order to actually lift them off the ground.

Secondly, the map you have to figure out where you’re going is stupid. There is no detail in it whatsoever; it’s a picture of the landscape with an cursor on it. Just one place it points to usually has 3 or 4 subareas within it so if you wanted to find a certain person in a certain area, you would have to guess what direction to go. For instance, the main city holds within it the plaza, a library, Cid’s workshop, an airdock, and a “soccer” field, amongst other destinations… But you wouldn’t know that by looking at the map, nor would you know the layout of it all.

The game also is contradictory of itself. The main character can basically fly around and move to all sorts of heights with his powers, yet you won’t be able to reach certain points in the game with them. You’ll come across treasure chests high up on perches throughout the title, but can’t reach them without finding the specific way to get there. That’s after you just got done flying up to a hovering platform three times as high as that cliff but somehow you can’t manage the “great distance” of that leap.

The AI is busted, too. The guards, in particular the ones in the air dock within the city, will run headlong into walls and will not deviate from their paths for anything. You’re a wanted criminal within the first 15 minutes or so of the game, but you can walk straight up to them as they bash their heads against the wall and they won’t do jack. There are also places where you can’t get out of the water, even when the ground is seemingly inclined enough for you to do so. Again, this is a guy who can more or less fly, but he can’t manage to pick himself up out of the shallow water, even when the ground is at an appropriate angle/level to do so.

I could go on and on about how much this game fails, but it’d be even more redundant to do so than this game. Don’t waste your time on this poorly made knock off and stick to the tried-and-true FF titles coming from Square-Enix.
