New Games Overview

This is just a friendly heads up for Xbox 360 owners looking for a little adventure game nostalgia this week.

Microsoft’s Major Nelson has revealed that in addition to Atari’s classic ball and stacked-block simulator Super Breakout, Microsoft will also be adding Activision’s seminal platformer Pitfall! to Xbox Live’s Game Room on Wednesday (aka tomorrow).

I was just talking with Stephen "Pitfall Harry" Johnson, and we were trying to figure out if we’d ever actually seen the ending of the original Pitfall. The consensus was we hadn’t, at which point Steve vaulted over his cubicle wall and was immediately consumed by a congregation of alligators. Yeah. It was pretty rad…I mean…sad.

Classic Game Room season 1 – 1/20/2000 If you look up the word “Old School” in the dictionary you’ll see a picture of this game. It was made for the legendary Atari 2600 in 1978, way before such things as motorized horseless carriages, World War I and light beer. It was probably made before your parents even met. Classic Game Room season 2 – 4/6/2007 From 1978 and the land of disco, malted hops and barley comes Stella the Wonderdog and her second review for Classic Game Room. Adventure is the original RPG.. which does not stand for “Real Playas Gangsta”. Maybe it does… who cares? Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation… too bad they didn’t get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii.

Classic Game Room blasts aliens into oblivion with one of the best side scrolling games of all time! Classic Game Room season 1 – 3/31/2000 It’s not every day that you get to bludgeon people with an 8 foot sword and watch their blood spray 20 feet into the air. It’s also not every day that mutant plant people come after you and try to rip you in half with tentacles and gouge out your eyes.. and then you get to cut them in half and mash your sword into their head! You get the idea. This is the perfect game for sociopaths who don’t want to leave their couch. Game Room reviewed Atari, NES, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and Playstation… too bad they didn’t get to Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 or Wii.

Classic Game Room HD reviews the SUNCOM STARFIGHTER ATARI 2600 JOYSTICK controller for the Atari 2600 VCS. The Suncom Star Fighter joystick controller for Atari 2600 is very similar in style to the standard Atari 2600 single button controller. It is slightly smaller, stiffer and more stylized. It also says starfighter “The Ultimate Joystick”. Play Atari 2600 video games with this controller for your Atari 2600 if you happen to have one, but don’t search one out. It offers little improvement over the stock 2600 joystick…. unless you want your high scores beamed into space to get you drafted into an alien space war. This is the last “Starfighter” joystick to be produced if by last you mean the last one to appear on this show. This is an add on aftermarket accessory controller for Atari 2600 produced in the USA.
