When e-mailed amazon for a return never received a responce. This is my first and last time buying from AMAZON.COM!!!

I am really pissed off at both Amazon and BuyDirect for not making this clear as a NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY!! The first drive I got would only play movies, not DVD games. I thought the drive was bad and contacted BuyDirect for a replacement (they’ve been very good on that, btw) and I received my replacement. The second drive did the same thing, and I started Googling the model # and found that others have had the same issue. It was only then that I discovered I needed to somehow flash the drive’s firmware with the firmware off the old drive, which isn’t an option if your old drive’s electronics is bad, in which case you’re basically screwed and you just wasted your money. Flashing the drive in itself is a real pain in the rear as well. BE WARNED this drive is NOT an immediate fix – and unless you’re tech saavy, you’re going to be in for some major disappointment! Flashing firmware is NOT for newbies. I don’t recommend this drive and I would like to see a disclaimer listed under the details on this drive – it really should come with a warning.

I replaced the Toshiba/Samsung drive that came with my Xbox 360 with this same model number(switched circuit boards) and within 2 weeks it was having the same problem as the previous drive(During game play the drive would stop and an unreadable disk error message would pop up. This message would say the disk was unreadable, and ask to remove disk and clean it. The disks were not dirty or scratched and of course I lost all progress in game play!). I lubricated the rails for the laser to slide on and it has fixed the problem for now. I think there must be a manufacturing problem with these things as far as lubricating the moving parts within the drive. If I were comfortable with flashing a different model/manufacturer’s drive so that it would run in my Xbox 360, I would. This drive is not the answer. Also, never work on your Xbox 360 if it is still under warranty! I only did this because Microsoft wanted to charge me $100 to fix the problem! I could get a new Xbox 360 for $200! Good Luck!

I wish I had read all of the negative reviews before purchasing. I would have saved myself a lot of time and hassle. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM if know nothing about “flashing” the drive. It DOES NOT WORK out of the box. In fact MICROSOFT may even ban you from XBOX LIVE for modifying your 360.
SHAME ON AMAZON FOR NOT PUTTING SOMETHING IN THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS PRODUCT!!!
